Water & Filtration

  • BPA-free water storage containers (5–7 gallon minimum x4)
  • WaterBOB bathtub liner (100-gallon emergency fill)
  • LifeStraw personal filter — 1 per person

  • Water purification tablets — chemical backup
  • Unscented household bleach (8 drops per gallon)
  • Collapsible water containers for transport

  • Manual can opener — non-electric, confirmed working

  • Canned goods variety — supplement to freeze-dried
  • Camp stove with extra propane canisters
  • Cooking utensils for non-electric cooking
  • Written calorie calculation vs. household daily need

Lighting

  • Tactical flashlight — 1 per person (Streamlight recommended)
  • Headlamp — 1 per person, hands-free capability
  • LED area lantern — 1 per critical room
  • Solar lantern — zero battery cost backup
  • Extra batteries — AA, AAA, CR123A in sealed dated bags
  • Candles + waterproof matches as deep backup

Communications

  • NOAA emergency radio (Midland ER310 recommended)
  • Two-way radios — minimum 2 units (Motorola T470)
  • Power bank — fully charged at all times
  • Written emergency contact list in waterproof bag
  • Out-of-area emergency contact designated
  • Family rally point established, written, and posted
  • Local NOAA frequency pre-programmed on radio
  • Battery-powered AM/FM as secondary backup

  • Solar charging panel for power station input
  • Car inverter for 12V to AC vehicle charging

First Aid & Medical

  • Comprehensive first aid kit — verified and fully stocked
  • Tourniquet — CAT or SOFTT-W, not elastic
  • Israeli battle bandage / trauma bandage
  • 30-day supply of all prescription medications
  • OTC medications: pain relief, antidiarrheal, antihistamine
  • Antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, hydrogen peroxide
  • Nitrile gloves — 4+ pairs

Tools & Equipment

  • Multi-tool (Leatherman or Gerber quality)
  • Fixed-blade survival knife
  • 550 lb paracord — 100 feet minimum
  • Duct tape and zip ties — heavy duty
  • Fire starter: ferrocerium rod + lighter + waterproof matches
  • Work gloves — leather or cut-resistant
  • Heavy-duty tarp (8x10 minimum)

Documents & Finance

  • Government ID and passport copies
  • Insurance cards — health, vehicle, home
  • Vehicle title and home ownership documents
  • $300–$500 cash in small bills (ATMs fail in blackout)
  • USB drive with encrypted digital copies of all documents
  • Waterproof document bag or Pelican pouch
  • Printed local maps and evacuation routes
